Sushi Tama has been our go-to sushi restaurant in Tacoma for over 20 years! While it has a small dining room, the food is delicious and always made with care and attention to detail. It is always spotlessly clean and the service is excellent. You should try to make a reservation in advance or come during a less busy day of the week. Even at 4:30 it might already be packed. However it is well worth the wait. It might not be as upscale as some other restaurants but it has a comfortable feel to it that puts you at ease. Food might take a little longer than at other places at times but again, it’s worth the wait. It’s a wonderful place for a date night or evening with good friends. It might not be the best option for really active little ones in the family, but if you do take them just make sure to bring things to keep them entertained and happy.

My first time here. Picked up 2 orders of teriyaki chicken, 1 Cali roll, 1 temp shrimp appetizer, $70 after tip. The chicken is dry and flavorless, only 4 shrimp and really small for the price. The Cali roll was good but only two pieces of ginger. I asked for extra teriyaki sauce on the chicken and got no sauce from what I could tell. I drove all the way back and they gave me two small cups that I should have gotten with a regular order. I had to ask for more and got a third cup. The kids working there are kind. Small servings for the price. Not sure how they have great ratings.

Great authentic Japanese food made with quality ingredients, great service, and very reasonable prices. Clean. Cute. Comfortable. We're eager to return! Chirashi was made with really fresh fish, and had the appropriate amount of rice, not too much. Rice was made well, with well defined grains, and tasted great, not too heavy on vinegar like many places. Oshinko rolls were crisp, fresh, and tasty. Karaage was delicious. Miso & salad were both great. Veggie tempura was fantastic! The oil was hot enough so it was crisp and flaky, and the oil was fresh, so the flavor of the many different vegetables came through. It was so good we kept ordering more things, all great. Definitely our new favorite in town, don't know why we hadn't tried it before. Next time natto! I wouldn't order that just anywhere.

My friend and I came today and we're immediately impressed by just how kind everybody was. Not only was the atmosphere incredible, but we were blown away with just how amazing the food was. Now I don't respond well to unusual textures in food, which makes it hard for me to enjoy sushi, but the sushi here was so incredible, I continued to eat beyond what my weak stomach could handle. Regretfully, this lead to me throwing up, but the waitress was super nice and understanding of the situation and swiftly helped me clean up after my mess. I would 100% recommend to anyone.

The food was amazing! We went with a friend who is from Japan. They said the food is on par with what you would typically find in Japan. The selection is great and I can’t wait to go back.

Sushi Tama is the place to go for authentic Japanese food and atmosphere. I love their sushi, but I usually get the sukiyaki pot when I want a hearty meal.

Absolutely the best authentic Japanese restaurant in Tacoma. Recently lived in Japan for a few years and it is the same...yup, that authentic!! Sushi Tama was my Japanese mom's favorite so that is good enough for me! The fish is ALWAYS fresh and the presentation is just like Japan; beautiful, even when it is takeout. I live overseas now but every time I visit Tacoma I have a few meals there but always on the last day of my visit I have a meal at Sushi Tama in honor of my mom who passed away 21 years ago. If you want authentic Japanese food made right, eat at Sushi Tama and tell them you are there because of my mom Kinuko Abe Montague. Itadakimasu (いただきます🔥)
